'Battery A, 4th U.S. Artillery (U.S. Civil War)' Battery A, 4th U.S. Artillery was a unit of the United States Army active during the American Civil War. This artillery battery was initially formed in 1846 for service during the Mexican-American War and later saw action throughout the four-year span of the Civil War. Notable engagements where Battery A participated include the First Battle of Bull Run, the Peninsula Campaign, the Seven Days Battles, Second Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor, Petersburg Siege, and Appomattox Campaign. The battery was mustered out of service in July 1865, following the Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House.
